DESCRIPTION:What is it?\nTo assist community members in completing their advanced directives. Sharing tips\, answering questions and stimulating conversations.\n\nAdvance care planning includes completing an advance directive\, sometimes known as a living will. It also includes appointing a healthcare power of attorney\, which is someone designated to make healthcare decisions on your behalf when you are no longer able to. Completing this task is even more important in the state of Vermont\, as it is not automatically your next of kin (spouse\, parent\, adult sibling\, etc.) who can make decisions if you are unable to speak for yourself. Once you have completed your advance directive\, do not lock it away in a desk or safe\; share it with family members and providers who may need to access it. You can also submit copies to the Vermont Advance Directive Registry to be accessed by authorized health care facilities and providers when needed.\n\nSo what is the takeaway?\nPlan. Talk. Document. Share. Encourage others in your life to do the same.\n\nWho facilitates it? Nicole DeNoyers & Karyn Brower\, LICSW\n\nContact Nicole DeNoyers to sign up: 802-438-8111 | nicole.denoyers@vnahsr.org\n \n This event post is not managed by the organizers of the event.\n It is recommended to double check with the organizers for important details like location and time.

DESCRIPTION:Every week brings further actions from this administration that push their authoritative agenda. More and more stories are emerging of innocent people being caught up in the ICE dragnet and being wrongfully imprisoned for days at a time. This could happen to anybody!\n\nThe courts have consistently opposed these wrongful detentions\, but Trump is trying to ignore the courts. Only public pressure will work. Join us in peaceful non-partisan protest against the illegal actions of this administration. Bring sign and a flag and make your voice heard.\n\nEach week neighbors gather at Wallingford 4 corners to show that our town respects the constitution\, and the cherished American values of due process of law for all people\, public civility\, strong institutions\, fairness and kindness to those in need\, and a government ruled by law\, not executive decree.\n\nNo one is above the law\, not the president\, not ICE thugs\, and not DOGE operatives striving to gut our core institutions and weaken our country.\n\nAs always\, be respectful of the businesses and don't block their parking\, and consider buying a coffee or lunch. DESCRIPTION:VNAHSR provides training for those interested in becoming hospice volunteers.\n\nTraining is free and open to individuals 16 years of age and older. Volunteers need to pass a background check. No previous hospice and health care experience is required. Pre-registration is required.\n\nAt the VNA & Hospice of the Southwest Region (VNAHSR)\, volunteers play a critical role in enhancing the end-of-life experiences of people facing serious illness and their families. Volunteers represent all life experiences and are drawn to hospice for a variety of reasons\, but the defining characteristics that unite them are compassion and the desire to help others. Their many skills are matched to important tasks within our mission.\n\nOnce training is complete\, assignments and schedules are tailored to the volunteer's geographic and time commitment preferences.\n\nTraining Topics include:\n• Understanding the Hospice philosophy of care\n• Knowing boundaries when interacting with patients and families\n• Communicating with patients and families\n• Understanding basic health and safety precautions\n• Understanding patient confidentiality\n\nThe Benefit of Becoming a Hospice Volunteer\nWhile our volunteers make a tremendous impact on the lives of our patients\, families and staff\, we hear time and again that they\, too\, benefit from their hospice experiences.\n\nAmong the things they mention are:\n• Increased appreciation for living life in the moment and defining what is really important\n• Greater knowledge and more inner peace about the end-of-life experience\n• Greater insight about diversity and the different perspectives among cultures\n• Heightened sense of fulfillment and pride because of their contributions to patients and families and to the VNA & Hospice of the Southwest Region.\n \n This event post is not managed by the organizers of the event.\n It is recommended to double check with the organizers for important details like location and time.

DESCRIPTION:TINMOUTH RADIO TOWER PROPOSAL\n\nPlease come to the meeting on June 19th at 6:00 P.M. at The Old Firehouse to discuss the proposed building of a 160 foot radio tower across the road from the cemetery. It is not a cell tower! We'll meet with the legal council for a company seeking to build it on speculation. It is very important that we all come for the presentation to show our concerns and have them addressed.\n\nFour homes would be directly affected by the toxic rays given off by the tower because it will be well under the 1500 feet setback deemed safe by various studies. In fact it is a proposal to be added next year to the Rutland Regional Plan ("a mandatory 1500 feet setback")\nThe Jaquay's are the nearest dwelling\, at just over 500 feet. Three other residences are less than 1500 feet.\n\nBUT it affects us all! Its viewscape radiates in all directions from the approximate center of the beautiful Tinmouth valley. The tiny balloon float gave little idea of the magnitude of the tower. Each time the original 1974 town plan was reviewed and updated by all of us it began "To maintain the rural aspects of the town including active farms\, open meadows\, substantial forests and scenic mountain vistas".\n\nIt is most important to fill The Old Firehouse to show our concern on this issue and to get firsthand information about the tower. I understand from Gail that zoom will also be available.\n \n This event post is not managed by the organizers of the event.\n It is recommended to double check with the organizers for important details like location and time.

DESCRIPTION:Please join us at Phoenix Books in Burlington for an evening with award-winning author Alison Bechdel\, to celebrate the release of her comic novel. Spent.\n\nIn Alison Bechdel’s hilariously skewering and gloriously cast new comic novel confection\, a cartoonist named Alison Bechdel\, running a pygmy goat sanctuary in Vermont\, is existentially irked by a climate-challenged world and a citizenry on the brink of civil war. She wonders: Can she pull humanity out of its death spiral by writing a scathingly self-critical memoir about her own greed and privilege?\n\nMeanwhile\, Alison’s first graphic memoir about growing up with her father\, a taxidermist who specialized in replicas of Victorian animal displays\, has been adapted into a highly successful TV series. It’s a phenomenon that makes Alison\, formerly on the cultural margins\, the envy of her friend group (recognizable as characters\, now middle-aged and living communally in Vermont\, from Bechdel’s beloved comic strip Dykes to Watch Out For).\n\nAs the TV show Death and Taxidermy racks up Emmy after Emmy—and when Alison’s Pauline Bunyanesque partner Holly posts an instructional wood-chopping video that goes viral—Alison’s own envy spirals. Why couldn’t she be the writer for a critically lauded and wildly popular reality TV show…like Queer Eye...showing people how to free themselves from consumer capitalism and live a more ethical life?!!\n\nSpent’s rollicking and masterful denouement—making the case for seizing what’s true about life in the world at this moment\, before it’s too late—once again proves that “nobody does it better” (New York Times Book Review) than the real Alison Bechdel.\n\nAlison Bechdel’s cult following for her early comic strip Dykes to Watch Out For expanded wildly for her family memoirs\, the New York Times bestselling and Time magazine #1 Book of the Year graphic memoir Fun Home\, adapted into a Tony Award–winning musical\, and Are You My Mother? Most recently\, The Secret to Superman Strength was named a New York Times Best Graphic Novel of 2021. Bechdel has been named a MacArthur Fellow\, among many other honors.\n \n This event post is not managed by the organizers of the event.\n It is recommended to double check with the organizers for important details like location and time.

DESCRIPTION:VIOLIN AND CELLO CONCERT AT STONE VALLEY ARTS\nStone Valley Arts proudly presents an afternoon concert featuring a father and son duo with Jack Shiller performing on cello and his father\, Larry Shiller on violin. This concert will be presented on Sunday\, June 8th at 4pm-5:15pm and is free to the public. Come join us for a delightful afternoon of classical music!\n\nThe program will include: 8 pieces\, Op. 39\, for violin and cello by Reinhold Gliere\, Cello Suite No.2 by J.S.Bach and the Violin Sonata no.1 by J.S. Bach.\n\nJack Shiller is a 23-year-old cellist who recently came to Vermont a few months ago and lives in Bennington\, currently\, performing with the Sage City Symphony. From an early age\, Jack was inspired to play chamber music because of sight reading sessions with his dad as he grew up. Even though it was just the two of them playing\, they would play through trios and quartets and count the rests together. Sometimes he visits his dad in Texas\, other times his Dad makes the trip instead\, and in any occasion they love to play chamber music when they meet up.\n\nLarry Shiller\, a lifelong violinist\, has been living in Texas for almost five years. Though he is working on a book\, running a homeschooling curriculum company\, and doing live commentary of Backgammon matches\, he is always involved in chamber or orchestral music. He has performed with the Toledo Symphony\, Miami Chamber Symphony\, Fort Lauderdale Symphony\, Greenwich Symphony\, Riverside Symphonia\, and Princeton Symphony\, and has studied with Aaron Rosand\, David Nadien\, Marcus Thompson\, David Epstein and Kay Livolsi.\n \n This event post is not managed by the organizers of the event.\n It is recommended to double check with the organizers for important details like location and time.

DESCRIPTION:The second movie in the 2025 Silent Movie Series at the Brandon Town Hall is "Underworld" (1927). This silent drama spurred a boom in "gangster" movies and will be screened on Saturday\, June 7 at 7:00 pm. Live music is provided by our friend Jeff Rapsis\, a New Hampshire based performer and composer who specializes in scoring and presenting silent films.\n\n"Underworld"\, directed by Josef von Sternberg and starring George Bancroft\, is notable for being he first major motion picture to portray a criminal in a sympathetic light instead of as a villain. Its popularity touched off a Prohibition era boom in Hollywood gangster pictures that reached its peak following the stock market crash of 1929. The story of "Underworld" follows gangster Bull Weed\, who becomes entangled in a love triangle involving a reformed drunkard "Rolls Royce" whom he takes on as his right hand man\, and bull's girlfriend "Feathers". Bull Weeds imprisonment leads to a dramatic climax. Bancroft's performance in "Underworld" set the stage for memorable characterizations of gangster protagonists by Jimmy Cagney\, Paul Muni\, and Edward G. Robinson\, which all follow directly from the model created by "Underworld" The script earned an Oscar for Best Screenwriting and is noted for director von Sternberg's innovative use of black and white photography\, which presaged many film noir techniques in following decades.\n\nThis years 7 movie series is sponsored by The Friends of the Brandon Town Hall and all donations and concession sales will be used to sponsor next years series of silent movies!\n \n This event post is not managed by the organizers of the event.\n It is recommended to double check with the organizers for important details like location and time.
